Overview

Dysport is a nonsurgical injectable treatment that can help soften the frown lines between your eyebrows, creating a more relaxed and refreshed appearance while preserving natural facial expression. It works by temporarily reducing the muscle activity that causes lines to form when you frown, concentrate, or make certain facial expressions.

At Restore & Reveal Aesthetic Surgery, Dysport treatments are customized to your facial movement, anatomy, and goals. The focus is subtle improvement that still looks like you: smoother, more rested, and never overdone.

What Dysport Treats

Dysport is FDA-approved for the temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe glabellar lines in adults under 65. These are the vertical lines that form between the eyebrows from repeated movement of the frown muscles.

Frown Lines Between the Brows

Dysport is most commonly used to soften the “11 lines” that appear between the eyebrows. These lines can make the face look tense, tired, serious, or less approachable, even when you feel relaxed.

Expression-Related Muscle Movement

Frown lines develop from repeated muscle tightening. Dysport works by temporarily reducing contractions from those specific muscles. This allows the skin above those muscles to look smoother while still allowing natural expression when placed thoughtfully.

Other Treatment Considerations

While Dysport is best known cosmetically for frown lines, Dr. Marshall may discuss whether another neuromodulator or injectable option is better suited for forehead lines, crow’s feet, or other areas of concern.

Dysport vs Botox

Dysport and Botox are both neuromodulators used to temporarily relax targeted facial muscles. They work in a similar way, but they are not interchangeable unit-for-unit. Dysport’s potency units are specific and cannot be compared or converted to other botulinum toxin products.

For patients, the practical question is usually not which product is “better,” but which product best fits their anatomy, muscle movement, treatment area, and desired result. During your consultation, Dr. Marshall can recommend Dysport, Botox, or another injectable option based on what will create the most natural-looking outcome.

Benefits

Dysport can be a good option for patients who want to look more relaxed and refreshed without surgery or significant downtime. Benefits may include:

  • Softens the appearance of frown lines between the brows
  • Helps the face look more relaxed, rested, and approachable
  • Preserves natural expression when treatment is carefully planned
  • Offers a nonsurgical option with little to no downtime for most patients
  • Can create gradual, natural-looking improvement
  • May be repeated as part of an ongoing maintenance plan
  • Can be combined with other nonsurgical treatments for more comprehensive facial rejuvenation movement

Risks

Although Dysport is widely used, it is still a prescription injectable treatment and should be performed by a qualified medical provider. Possible side effects may include temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, headache, or discomfort at the injection sites. Less commonly, patients may experience temporary eyelid or brow heaviness, asymmetry, or unwanted muscle weakness.

The Restore and Reveal Aesthetic team helps minimize risk through careful assessment, appropriate dosing, and precise injection placement. We will review your medical history, answer your questions, and discuss what to expect before treatment.

Ideal Candidate

Dysport may be a good fit if you are bothered by frown lines between your eyebrows and want a nonsurgical treatment that helps you look more refreshed without changing your overall appearance.

Ideal candidates are generally healthy adults under 65 with moderate to severe glabellar lines and realistic expectations about what injectable wrinkle treatment can achieve. Dysport may not be recommended for patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have certain neuromuscular conditions, have an active infection near the treatment area, or have had a previous reaction to botulinum toxin products.

During your consultation, Dr. Marshall will review your health history, medications, previous injectable treatments, and aesthetic goals to determine whether Dysport is appropriate for you.

Dysport Consultation

Your consultation is designed to help you feel informed and confident before treatment. We will ask what you would like to improve, evaluate your facial movement, and look at how your frown muscles contribute to the lines between your brows.

This is also the time to talk about the kind of result you want. Some patients want subtle softening while others prefer a smoother look. Dr. Marshall will explain what Dysport can realistically achieve and recommend a personalized treatment plan.

Preparation

Dysport requires minimal preparation. To help reduce the chance of bruising, Dr. Marshall may recommend avoiding alcohol and certain blood-thinning medications or supplements before treatment, if medically appropriate. Do not stop prescribed medications unless directed by your physician.

Let the Restore & Reveal Aesthetic team know if you have any skin irritation, infection, recent facial procedures, medication changes, or upcoming events.

What to Expect During Dysport Treatment

Dysport treatment is performed in the office using a series of small injections. For frown lines, Dysport is typically placed in specific points between and above the eyebrows to temporarily reduce the muscle contractions that create glabellar lines.

Dr. Marshall may ask you to frown or make other facial expressions to identify the muscles involved. The injections are typically quick and are often described as a brief pinch. Most patients are able to return to normal daily activities shortly after the appointment.

Dysport Recovery

Most patients have little to no downtime after Dysport. Mild redness, swelling, tenderness or pinpoint marks at the injection sites may occur and usually fade quickly. Mild side effects from botulinum toxin injections can include swelling, redness, soreness, bruising, and (less commonly) a mild headache.

Results develop gradually. Some patients begin to notice softening within a few days, with results continuing to settle over the following days. Improvement in glabellar lines can last for up to four months.

Dr. Marshall will give you specific aftercare instructions, which may include avoiding rubbing or massaging the treated area immediately after treatment.

Combination Treatments

Dysport can be part of a broader nonsurgical facial rejuvenation plan. While Dysport helps soften frown lines caused by muscle movement, dermal fillers can restore volume or enhance areas such as the lips, cheeks, folds, or lower face.

Dr. Marshall may also recommend skin treatments to improve tone, texture, sun damage, or overall skin quality. When combined thoughtfully, these treatments can help create a refreshed, balanced result without making you look overdone.
