Upper and Lower Eyelid Enhancement

Starting at $3,000

Aging, sun exposure and some medical conditions can cause eyelids to droop and skin to become loose. This can make you look older than you feel, and even affect your vision. Plastic surgery to correct this condition is called blepharoplasty.

For the upper eyelid procedure, Dr. Marshall makes an incision along the natural crease on your eyelid to conceal the scar. He then removes excess skin, tightens muscles and re-positions fat deposits to restore a natural, more youthful appearance to your eye. This procedure can usually be performed in Dr. Marshall's Asheville office with light sedation and local anesthetic.

Lower eyelid surgery involves either an incision just below the lower lashes or on the inside of the lower eyelid, to hide the scar. As with the upper eyelid procedure, excess skin is removed and fat can be re-positioned or removed. An alternative lower eyelid procedure uses a transconjunctival incision, which is made inside the lower eyelid. With this method, excess fat can be removed or redistributed without removing any skin.

Dr. Marshall will give you instructions for how to care for your eyes after your surgery. You can use cold compresses to relieve swelling, and lubricating ointment can help if your eyes feel dry or irritated. Postoperative pain is minimal, and for most people, full recovery from eyelid surgery takes about two weeks.
