Expertise, state-of-the-art technology, and personalized care
Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding can take a permanent toll on a mother’s body. Stretch marks, loose abdominal skin, deflated breasts, and stubborn fat are just a few of the major changes that can develop. While diet and exercise can help, they may not be able to restore a pre-baby body. Nonetheless, restoring your pre-baby body is possible with a Mommy Makeover. The Mommy Makeover is a customizable collection of procedures that can help you get your body back. During your one hour, personal consultation, Dr. Marshall will educate you on all your options and help you determine which procedures should be included in your Mommy Makeover to match your goals, your preferences, your body type, and your lifestyle. Most often, the Mommy Makeover will include a tummy tuck, liposuction, breast lift surgery, and/or breast augmentation. Dr. Marshall is a board-certified plastic surgeon that performs these surgeries for the Asheville, Weaverville, Hendersonville, Highlands, Cashiers, Waynesville, Johnson City, and other Western North Carolina communities.
What are the benefits of a traditional Mommy Makeover?
1. Restoration of breasts: A woman’s breasts swell and prepare to lactate during pregnancy even if she does not plan to breastfeed. Subsequently, after pregnancy and breastfeeding, a mother’s breasts will lose volume and may become deflated and saggy. Breast surgeries such as a breast lift and breast augmentation can be incorporated into your Mommy Makeover to restore firm, perky, and youthful breasts.
2. Elimination of stubborn fat: Stubborn fat may be incredibly difficult to eradicate after childbirth. Areas such as the waistline, hips, flanks, thighs, and buttocks are particularly prone to developing localized fat deposits during pregnancy. The Mommy Makeover may include liposuction to target these areas directly. Liposuction will suction away the stubborn, excess fat to reveal a trim silhouette.
3. Improvements in overall body shape: The abdominal skin and muscles that stretch and shift during pregnancy do not simply “bounce back” to their former state after your child is born. Abdominal muscles may remain disengaged, and the skin of the abdomen may become stretched, saggy, and covered with stretch marks. The Mommy Makeover in Asheville, North Carolina can include a tummy tuck to tighten the stomach muscles, get rid of stretched skin and excess fat, and create a flat, toned tummy.
4. Boost in self-confidence: Being a mother can feel overwhelming even without being concerned about your body. Many new mothers feel inadequate for the task, and having a poor body image can further diminish your self-confidence. The Mommy Makeover is designed to recapture a more youthful and attractive body shape so that mothers feel more confident in their bodies.
How is our Mommy Makeover different from a traditional Mommy Makeover?
Dr. Marshall uses a triple combination approach with VASER liposuction, Bodytite, and Morpheus8 microneedling to tighten skin, reduce laxity, and eliminate stretch marks on the belly. This combination dramatically reduces downtime and pain because there are no long incisions, drains, or suturing muscles. This combination modality is combined with a traditional breast lift or breast augmentation to complete the Mommy Makeover. The procedures can be performed separate or combined into a single surgery.
What is the recovery like after a mommy makeover?
Our approach will have you back to exercising and picking up your little ones after one week. You will need to wear supportive garments for 6-8 weeks, but these are easily hidden under your clothes. You will be given 1-2 days of pain medicine (sometimes not even necessary), and then you will take Tylenol or Motrin for mild discomfort.
After a traditional Mommy Makeover in Asheville, NC, you will have drains in your belly that are typically present for 1-2 weeks. Pain will be slightly more, so Dr. Marshall will be sure to be in constant communication with you and monitoring your needs for prescription pain medicine. Light exercise is allowed after the drains are removed; however, abdominal crunches, sit-ups, or any “core” exercises are discouraged for 6-8 weeks after surgery. Supportive garment wear is also required for 6-8 weeks after surgery. Swimming or submerging your incisions under water is prohibited, with either approach, until cleared by Dr. Marshall.
